Overall this is a great book about Minnesota fish. The detail into patterns and locations are pretty good. Some of the lesser known fish do not have much information do to the rarity of them I assume. The pictures are well details but are not photo pictures. They seem to be the artist rendition of each fish, but the pictures do a great job in showing distinguishing detail patters for each fish. Overall this is a great book for the Minnesota fishermen and I would recommend this read as well. Much cheaper than the local book store that's for sure.

The book gives an in depth look at all the fish in Minnesota. It is much more than a field guide and provides for an interesting read. The illustrations are exceptionally well done.

I received this from my children as a Christmas gift. (They were paying attention, having commented on it at the book store.) My brothers and I grew up on a Minnesota lake fishing almost daily. We continue to fish and have even fished in national walleye tournements together. I am not a fish nut, but the study of fish habitat, diet and behavior are very interesting to me as a sportsmen. What you get out of this book is exactly that and just a bit much more. First off, the illustrations are amazing. Joseph Tomelleri is a blessed and talented artist. The paragraghs on each species is concise and interesting. I learned more about the fish I am familiar with and a whole lot about fish I didn't know existed. Its a fun book I expect will get lot of miles of browsing. I read it cover to cover in a few evenings. I have found my self looking again at my favorite game fish.

I went to a workshop at the local library on early literacy. This was one of the books the librarian recommended I try. This is the first book my son would sit through at 5 months. I tried other books every day, but could only get through a couple pages. We'd alway end up right back at Hooray for Fish.

Positives of this book:
- Bold colors and stark contrasts
- Simple pictures
- Great rhythmic text. "Upside down and round and round" "so many friends, so many fish. Splash, splosh, splish"
- There are a couple pages that could be search and find pages. "Can you find a fish that looks like a pineapple?"

This is a big, fun book with bold, colorful artwork, typical of the clean, direct style that guides Cousins' wildly successful "Maisy" series. A cute little fish, named "Little Fish," gives us a tour of the undersea world, introducing us to a bunch of fancifully named friends ("ele-fish," "eye fish," "sky fish," etc.) This has a very Dr. Seuss-y feel to it... It's visually arresting, rhymes well and fun to read aloud. Recommended!

My 19-month old is WILD for this book; it's the reigning favorite at the moment. The silly fish pictures are great and she loves the pages where there are LOTS of fish on the page (including the inside back pages), pointing out to me her favorites from the story. She also has fun picking out the "extra" fish that look like strawberry fish, pineapple fish, etc. The sing-songy rhymes are as fun as the artwork and a definite winner in our house!

Our 16-month-old son absolutely adores this book! We read it using silly voices for each fish, and he just smiles all the way through. When he wants to read this book, he'll bring it to my husband or me, making kissing noises. It's a shame that this book isn't available in a board book format--we've had to tape and re-tape several of the pages from all of the use it gets!

I purchased this for my 2 yr old who A) loves Maisy the Mouse B) loves fish - so it was a no brainer! I found the book actually doing a search on Maisy and bought it on a whim. WE LOVE THIS BOOK! The illustrations are fantastic - bold, vibrant colors on a bigger than normal sized book. And the story is very sweet. Worth every penny and definitely a must for your children's book collection.

If you liked the River Cottage Meat book, you should also like this book. You will find informed and up to date discussions and commentaries on the sustainability of various fisheries as well as fish farming practices, some very nice recipes and, descriptions of fishes found in the UK (although many are also available to North American consummers). Some recipes are a bit on the traditional and heavy side so I am guessing the omega3 crowd might be a bit disapointed. Since the book is a bit UK- and Euro-centric, I am hoping for an updated North American version.
