I have experience with huskies. We had two, and i also have a friend who has two.

In our houshold, we bathed the dogs weekly, dried them with the hair dryer, and combed them out once their fur was dry. This helped remove old, dead and loose hair… as you may know, they can shed horribly.

Conversely, the other person i know who has huskies never bathes them — she combs them out, but not very often. Her house is one, massive hair ball… husky hair covers everything — furniture, clothing, all over the floors, you name it. Believe me, it’s a nightmare….

It’s some sort of newer procedure that some groomers are using I guess. First of all, is it traumatic? My one dog doesn’t even like being brushed. If you’ve gotten your dog done, how much was it? Do they do cats as well? I have Shetland Sheepdogs and they are shedding like CRAZY! I’m desperate to try anything. On a scale of 1-10 (10 being the best), how effective is it? THANKS!

No, it isn’t traumatic at all! It works just like a regular brush. My puppy *hated* being brushed, and now he’s cool as a cucumber, doesn’t mind the Furminator at all.

This thing is a God send. I give it a 10 for sure!!

Take a look at their website and scroll through the pictures…. it is *amazing* how much fur comes off both cats & dogs. They are pretty pricey ($ 40-$ 60 in stores around my area) but I found the size that I needed on Ebay for $ 25. Score!

I have read that this product is supposed to greatly reduce shedding in long haired cats? I would like to know if the people that bought them has seen a decrease in shedding and would you recommend the product?
I am talking about the cat furminator that is actually specifically made for cats.

Brushing with any type of brush should decrease shedding. I have a furminator I got for my dogs, but it works pretty well on the cats too. I suppose it would work really well if I kept up on it. If you are going to brush the cat regularly, and kind find it cheaper then go for it. If you are only going to use it occasionally then don’t waste your money.

My dog is a shiba inu, germans shepard mix around 50 pounds. she needs something for her fur really bad but i dont want to put out a whole lot of money if there’s something cheaper out there that works just as good. any suggestions?

If your dogs have shorter hair then a shedding blade might do the trick. My last dog was a shepherd/rhodesian ridgeback mix and I used that and a flea comb to brush him out. He shed a lot as well.

I got my shedding blade at walmart, I don’t remember the exact cost but it wasn’t that expensive. Just make sure not to go against the grain of the hair, it can hurt them if you do.

Well, I went to a police dog celebration of their 20th anniversary and lots of people recommended it to me because I was saying my dog sheds alot. My mom constantly has to vacuum and we are planning on buying one. ALL the people who recommended it said it worked. AND one of the K-9 Officers recommended a warm bath and then brushing it afterward.

CHAO§ is a VEIM: do you know how exactly it ruins the coat? I know it’s not supposed to be used on curly coated breeds, but could it ruin the coat of say a smooth coated terrier or something like a Golden Retriever? Just curious.

the only negative I have is that the hair gets all over my clothes and house when I do it! So it is best to do it outside

Well, considering that they are still quite new, there’s no way of telling exactly how long they should last. I’ve had mine for two years, use it once a day per week on 3 different animals…and still LOOKS and WORKS as if it were new. I love it.

Good investment btw, yes you just keep brushing until the hair stops coming out or slows down, because the insides of the forks are sharp you should refrain from brushing too long other wise your pom will lose too much hair, unless that’s what you want. That thing will last you for ever

yes its for any shedding dog.

i use it when my husky blows her coat

and i used it twice a week because my hound sheds sooooo freaking much!!! its worth it to invest in it

I have read countless articles where people state that the Furminator doesn’t work on their Pomeranian. I don’t know if the Furminator is intended for medium to short haired dogs.

I have a Golden Retreiver (lots of long hair) and it works great on him. I’ve never heard of anyone having a problem with poms though…Good Luck!

Well,I don’t have rag doll but it should not hurt her because she is really shedding.If she was not shedding so bad it might hurt her.Because from what i heard there fur can get tangled easy.
